reverse vb 1 a to turn completely about in position or direction
-- Merriam-Webster Collegiate Dictionary
America's health care workers are to be congratulated and honored for their outstanding efforts in this time of a major health crisis. So what I say now is no reflection on their dedication and persistence at this time.
But America must do an about-face in terms of its health care system. Newsweek magazine has already written about the fact that this crisis uncovers the fact that the United States really has no public health care system. We have expensive hospitals privately-run, as well as the most expensive health care "plans" in the world from private insurers. What we do not have -- still! -- is affordable care for all.
This is beyond a tragedy -- it is a travesty. And so, our country must turn about. Another meaning of the word "reverse" is ANNUL: as to overthrow, set aside, or make void (a legal decision) by a contrary decision.* At this time, we must non-violently overthrow this usurping, inefficient, and ever-so-hurtful profit system. In regards to health care such a draconian system is especially grotesque.
I predict that in the coming days and weeks an up-ending of the profit-seeking and profit-sucking health-care system will, in effect, come to an end. Already today, it has been announced that the New York Stock exchange trading floor is to be closed. As trading floors close, may hospital floors be opened freely to care for our desperately sick and wounded citizens.
