Jimmy Carter's words (see below) have been on my mind in recent days. In some ways, I regretted having to leave the subject without further comment. If you have not already watched the video I urge you to do so. To have things put so clearly by the esteemed former President is still breathtaking. To have Mr. Carter state so forthrightly that what we really have in America now is an oligarchy is refreshing and terrifying at the same time. Sadly, this is not the first time America has dealt with this problem. The Gilded Age was resplendent in wealth at the top of the economic pyramid, while those at the bottom languished. We have a very similar situation today.
It doesn't have to be this way. I am steeling myself to work for a different America, a better America -- one where opportunity truly is equalized for all.
