Post Writer Calls for Republicans and Democrats to Work Across Party Lines to Defeat Trump
by Danielle Allen
The article here, while not brand-new, offers a good perspective on how demagogues rise in a nation. I am most interested in the first half of the article. The author says Trump is exploiting a partisan divide in our country. It is not difficult to see how this is the case.
The solution, then, would be for Democrats and Republicans to join together to oppose Trump. Clinton, says author Allen, is not strong enough to act as a firewall.
What this article misses, of course, is the Sanders candidacy. Why the mainstream media has dismissed Sanders is a story in and of itself. According to them, Super Delegate intentions which were announced long before Sanders had earned any victories simply cannot be revised. This, of course, is not true. It represents more of this locked-in thinking I have been describing in recent days.
Allen does a good job of describing what is going through the minds of people now and why so many are attempting to "sit this one out." It seems safer. It is like an internal exile, as she puts it.
This is why I respect those who are trying to mount a third party. I am sure I disagree with much which a William Kristol would advocate. However, he is not insane and he does care about the country, as far as I can tell. Most of all he is willing to stand up, be counted, and work for an alternative to the very scary demagoguery of the maniac mogul from the metropolis.
