Danielle Allen writing in The Washington Post has an excellent post mortem for the party of Lincoln in a July 20, opinion piece.
I am not one of the mourners for the G. O. P. although I do miss people like Mark Hatfield and Margaret Chase Smith. For the Republican Party of today is a push-group, filled with too many possessing a proto-fascist agenda of authoritarianism aong with something like the privilege of the proletariat. What an irony. It seems to me the Communist Party used to talk that way.
Putting aside the Communist Party for the moment, Trumpism is certainly a movement, but it is not a major political party in the great American sense of the term.
As another movement says, "Stop Hate. Dump Trump."
