With New York’s primary complete, it’s clear that Bernie Sanders campaign has peaked and is highly unlikely to catch Hillary Clinton.
He’s not yet mathematically eliminated from the Democratic presidential primary—some huge event could still change everything.
This is from a sort of news analysis web site. At least there is a degree of hope here.
But as I have written elsewhere, this reducing our nation's political life to mere mathematics is killing us. I certainly respect math, but as a musician, I know how important the creative process and critical thinking are.
How can we possibly reduce the very important issues we face in America now, including the matter of choosing a President to simple mathematically computed "chances?" What primitivism! What amateurishness!
Hillary Clinton represents too much the politics of the past. This politics is one of accommodation to and even promotion of the profit system. It is the profit system which is ruining us. This, too, I have written of elsewhere.*
It may be that a self-declared socialist cannot win the U.S. Presidency. But we must have this discussion: is unfettered capitalism -- an economy run by Wall Street -- what is best for America now? This is an urgent matter, demanding of answers.
